Hotter, Drier, Lighter - How to Care for Your Hair’s Changing Needs in Summer

sum1.jpg

Summer means longer days, warmer nights - and dry hair. Changing temperatures require a change in your hair care routine, and Bob has put together this guide to help you through it. Heat from the sun, chlorine and salt water all contribute to your hair feeling drier, and your colour looking brassy and fading faster.

Follow these tips to keep your hair looking and feeling great - always.

  • Using a UV Protectant:

Using a product with a UV protectant in it before you go outside is pivotal in creating a barrier between your hair and the sun. Think of it like sunscreen for your hair - the heat from the sun will create dryness and fading in your colour, and a UV protectant helps to prevent that.

  • Avoiding Chlorine:

Everyone loves a dip in the pool, but chlorine can affect your colour (especially blondes!) and create a build up in the hair. Rinse your hair immediately after swimming in cold water to cleanse your hair and protect it from damage, and apply a chlorine protectant before diving in.

  • Treatments:

Treatments are always beneficial for your hair, but especially important in summer. Using a hydrating mask once a week will nourish your parched strands back to health - purchase one for use at home or make an appointment in salon. Use your time effectively by applying Olaplex No 2 to your hair before heading to the beach, or lying poolside.

  • Coloured Hair:

Thinking of going lighter for summer? Blondes have more fun, but they also have more maintenance. Talk to your stylist about home haircare at your appointment to ensure you’re using the right products for your new colour. Be aware that the sun can cause your toner to fade faster than usual, so you might need to purchase a toning conditioner for at home use, or add an extra toner appointment to your salon bookings. Coloured brunettes and coppers can experience similar issues - if your colour is looking warmer and lighter than usual, book in for a refresh.
